Our Favourite Campfire Recipes for the Road

Good food just tastes better outdoors. Whether you’re parked by a river or camped in the red dust, these simple recipes are made for the road — no fancy ingredients, no stress, just wholesome meals that make you feel at home wherever you are.

1. Damper with Golden Syrup

You’ll need:
2 cups self-raising flour, a pinch of salt, 1 tbsp butter, ¾ cup water.

Mix into a dough, shape into a round loaf, and cook in a cast-iron pot over hot coals for 25–30 minutes. Drizzle with golden syrup or honey to serve. Perfect with your morning cuppa.

2. Campfire Nachos

You’ll need:
Corn chips, shredded cheese, black beans, tomato salsa, avocado, and lime.

Layer ingredients in a cast-iron pan, cover with foil, and heat over low coals until the cheese melts. Add a squeeze of lime and a dash of hot sauce. A crowd favourite — especially after a day on the tracks.

3. One-Pan Breakfast Hash

You’ll need:
Diced potatoes, onion, capsicum, bacon, and eggs.

Cook everything in layers, finishing with cracked eggs over the top. Cover until the eggs set, then serve with toasted bread. Feeds the whole crew.

4. Campfire Chocolate Bananas

You’ll need:
Bananas, chocolate chips, and marshmallows.

Slice each banana down the middle, fill with chocolate and marshmallows, wrap in foil, and cook in coals for 5–10 minutes. It’s nostalgic, easy, and guaranteed to make new friends at any campsite.
